Purdue University


Purdue University was established in May 6, 1869 A.D as a public University running Mitchell E. Daniel, the president of the University and Debasish Dutta the provost. This university was a support given by John Purdue who gifted $150,000 to establish this University, it was said that John Purdue was a big businessman of that time. Purdue University is located in West Lafayette of Indiana in United States of America and has covered the large town area of 2,602 acres and 15,325 acres of the land for the agriculture and industrial research of the University. The nickname of the University is boilermaker and the mascot is Purdue Pete or Special. Purdue University is a member of Big Ten Conference. 3,055 people work as a academic staff in Purdue University and 38,770 students study here where 29,555 belong to undergraduate program and 9,215 students belong to post graduate program.  Purdue University has its affiliation with Purdue University system, AAU, CIC, APLU and URA. Purdue University provides students numerous numbers of majors, 200 majors in undergraduate, more than 80 in graduate and 70 majors in master’s degree with the major such as; aeronautics and astronautics, agriculture economics, biochemistry, botany and plant pathology, chemical engineering, computer science, entomology, forestry and natural resources, nursing, philosophy and so on. According to the records Purdue University has the largest number of international students. Not only have they got this 3rd largest number of Greek students admitted in Purdue University, 2nd largest students in United States get admitted in this University. Approximately 900 students of Purdue University are involved in different organizations. Purdue University has different kind of students w6ho belong to different religion and creed; 4% of African in undergraduate and 5% in graduation program, 6% of Asian in undergraduate and graduate program, 4% of Latino in undergraduate and 5% in graduation program, 0.2% of American Indian in undergraduate and 0.3% in graduation program whereas the largest number of international students, 16% in undergraduate and 44% in graduation program. The University provides a luxuries residence hall inside the campus. The University has 15 Residence Hall provided to the students of undergraduate as well as graduate. They are; Cary Quadrangle, Earhart hall, First Street tower, Harrison hall, Hawkins hall, Hillenbrand hall, hilltop apartments, McCutchen hall, Meredith hall, Owen hall, Purdue village, Shreve hall, Tarkington hall, third street suites, Wiley hall, Duhme, Shealy, Wamen, Wood and Vawter. The residence hall is separated for men and Women so that they will not have to go through difficulties during the time they live in the residence hall
