University of North Carolina (UNC) was established in Dec 11, 1789. The former name UNC was North Carolina University. Opened as a first public institute for higher education in North Carolina this University runs under the leadership of president Kemp Plummer Battle. The motto of UNC is “lux libertas” whose English translation is light and liberty. University of North Carolina is located in Chapel Hill of North Carolina in United States of America. The campus covers 729 acres of the land. The academic staffs in UNC are 3,518 and the administrative staffs are 8,534. The UNC has the total student of 29,390 where 18,579 are undergraduates and 10,811 are post graduates.  UNC’s color is Carolina blue and white whereas the nickname of this University is Tar Heels. The mascot for UNC is Rameses. University of North Carolina has its affiliation with UNC system, URA, AAU, SURA and APLU. University of North Carolina is among the 8 public Ivy schools that give an Ivy League experience to the students. The universities door first opened in 1795 for the students. University of North Carolina provides numerous numbers of programs such as; 71 bachelor’s program, 107 master’s program and 74 doctoral degrees. Every year the rate of international student increases in double, 30% of the undergraduate programs in this University are taken by international student and more than 28000 students from North Carolina come for admission that is why University of North Carolina is known as the second largest University in the city of North Carolina. University of North Carolina was also placed in 30th position for providing best undergraduate programs for students. The major subject chosen by the students in UNC are biology, business administration, psychology, journalism and mass communication and political science. The residential hall of University of North Carolina has 16 governors to look after the students. There are more than 32 residence hall inside the campus and they are; alderman hall, Connor hall, Alexander hall, Craige hall, Avery hall, Craige North, Carmichael hall, Ehringhar hall, Cobb hall, Everest hall, Braham hall, Grimes hall, Hardin hall, Hinton James hall, Horton hall, Joyner hall, Lewis hall, Manly hall, McIver hall, Morrison hall, Old East hall, Old West hall, Parker hall, Spencer hall, Ruffin hall, Stacy hall, Teague hall and Winston hall. University of North Carolina is successful even for the sports as it has won many championship in men’s basketball and Women’s soccer and field hockey matches.
